Senior Cloud Developer – Commodities Trading (AWS)

Location: Johannesburg – Sandton (hybrid)

The Opportunity

Join a leading international fintech company seeking a Senior Cloud Developer to design, develop, and manage cloud infrastructure for their data pipelines. You’ll work closely with the data team in London to ensure their data needs are met at an enterprise scale.

What You’ll Do

• Design and implement cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK), Terraform, or CloudFormation.
• Develop and deploy robust data pipelines using AWS services like Glue, Lambda, and Step Functions.
• Implement and maintain best practices for security, reliability, and monitoring in the AWS environment.
• Collaborate with the trading team to understand their data needs and architect solutions that optimise workflows.
• Foster a collaborative environment by working closely with engineers, data scientists, and other cloud teams.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and deployment using DevOps principles.
• Utilise strong Python skills to develop and manage cloud infrastructure and data pipelines.
• Possess a deep understanding of AWS services and best practices, with a focus on data pipelines.

You’re a Perfect Fit If You Have

• 5+ years of experience in cloud development using AWS (ideally with AWS certification).
• Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud best practices for security, scalability, and cost optimization.
• Experience building and managing data pipelines in the cloud (AWS Glue, Lambda, Step Functions preferred).
• Strong Python programming skills.
• Familiarity with DevOps principles and automation tools.
• A collaborative and results-oriented mindset.
• A passion for cloud technologies and a desire to learn and adapt.

Ideal Fit If You Have

• Experience with commodities data or financial services (a plus).
• AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate)
