Risk Analyst – Market Risk

Cititec Talent is working with a global energy trading business that is expanding its risk function in both Houston and London. This is a core mid-office Risk Analyst role – ideal for professionals with 5-10 years of experience in market risk and P&L reporting across physical and financial commodities.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce daily P&L reports (T+1) with detailed commentary and key driver analysis
• Monitor and report on mark-to-market exposures, VaR, drawdowns, and delta exposures
• Work closely with physical and financial desks to ensure P&L integrity – challenge discrepancies, align positions, and escalate appropriately
• Collaborate across desks including Gas, Power, Crude, and LNG, with increasing focus on framework development in emerging markets
• Ensure timely delivery of risk reporting to Chief Commercial Officer by midday (Houston time)
• Support the buildout of new risk processes in Crude (using RightAngle ETRM) and LNG, where risk infrastructure is still being developed
• Help embed operational and liquidity risk management into trading workflows – especially relevant as LNG exposure scales

Ideal Candidate

• 5-10 years’ experience in a market risk or middle office role within energy trading
• Deep knowledge of physical and financial commodity markets, ideally with exposure to Crude, Gas, Power, or LNG
• Comfortable operating as a gatekeeper and challenger – willing to push back on front office when needed
• Experienced in daily risk control and P&L production in high-pressure environments
• Preferably familiar with ETRM systems (RightAngle, Allegro, etc.)
• Ability to work on-site full time in a trading-floor environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills – this is a visible role with senior stakeholder exposure

Nice to Have

• Experience helping build or reshape a risk framework, especially in Crude or LNG
• Comfort with technical modelling, data analytics, and/or stress testing
• Prior exposure to LNG market risk is a major plus – this will become a growth area for the team
