Founding Product Designer – Energy Trading

Cititec is proud to be working with a pioneering AI company that is transforming the energy trading sector with advanced forecasting and decision-support technology. They are searching for a Founding Product Designer to create and lead the design vision for their trading platform.
This is not just another design role – it’s an opportunity to be the very first design hire, responsible for shaping the way market participants interact with critical real-time data. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, data scientists, and commercial experts to turn complex trading workflows into simple, reliable, and intuitive tools.

What You’ll Do

• Define and own the full design process, from discovery through to delivery, for a platform used by traders and analysts
• Partner with end-users to understand how they make high-stakes decisions and translate those insights into effective design solutions
• Use product analytics to evaluate user behaviour and measure the success of design improvements
• Create design outputs ranging from journey maps and wireframes to prototypes and polished, high-fidelity interfaces
• Build and manage a modular design system in Figma to support a consistent, scalable product experience
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure accurate implementation and resolve trade-offs between usability and technical constraints
• Develop clear, purposeful microcopy to aid usability and support decision-making in fast-moving environments
• Communicate design rationale to senior stakeholders and influence product strategy through design thinking

What We’re Looking For

Core experience:

• 7+ years designing complex B2B products, ideally within trading, fintech, or energy markets
• Proven success as a solo or founding designer, comfortable setting up design processes from scratch
• Portfolio that demonstrates clarity in data-rich environments and measurable improvements to usability and outcomes
• Strong background in analytics-driven design, including event tracking and behaviour analysis
• Advanced Figma skills, including prototyping and system architecture
• Familiarity with AI-assisted design tools and ability to refine outputs into production-ready solutions
• Strong knowledge of responsive design, accessibility, and scalable design frameworks
• Confident communicator with the ability to collaborate across engineering, research, and business functions

Bonus points for:

• Exposure to energy or commodity trading platforms
• Knowledge of front-end development (React, TypeScript, Tailwind)
• Experience designing tools that involve real-time data visualisation or decision-support
