Senior Data Engineer – Commodities Trading
Location: Cape Town (hybrid)

What You’ll Do
- Architect and implement seamless data pipelines connecting complex trading systems, legacy infrastructure, and our modern cloud environment (AWS).
- Champion the migration of data infrastructure from on-premises to AWS, ensuring efficient and scalable data management.
- Partner with the trading team to understand their data needs and build solutions that optimise their workflows.
- Foster a collaborative environment by working closely with engineers, data scientists, and the cloud team to guarantee smooth integration across all technical functions.
- Lead, mentor, and provide guidance to a team of data engineers and data scientists.
- Develop and maintain data mapping strategies using Object Relational Mapping (ORM) systems.
- Utilise your strong Python and Java skills to build and manage data pipelines and transformation processes.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of commodities data (experience in finance is a plus).
- Maintain a laser focus on system security and ensure all data flows are reliable.
You’re a Perfect Fit If You Have
- A minimum of 8+ years of experience in data engineering.
- Proven experience migrating data infrastructure to the cloud (AWS preferred).
- In-depth knowledge of data warehousing, data modelling, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
- A solid understanding of complex trading systems and financial data.
- Expertise in Object Relational Mapping (ORM) systems.
- Excellent Python and Java programming skills.
- A proven ability to manage and mentor a team of engineers and data scientists.
